Shade-grown Japanese matcha. L-theanine alongside the caffeine, for steady attention and no crash.
This is our everyday Japanese culinary (ryori) matcha. Its stronger, earthier flavour holds up with milk, fruit and baked ingredients, and its natural colour is a muted olive-green rather than the bright green of a drinking-grade matcha.
Prefer a smoother, sweeter latte? Try Sweet Japanese Matcha.

Nutrients: Our estimate
Caffeine: Published research
Caffeine is the published range; the typical value is its midpoint. Calories and macros are typical values for whole-leaf green-tea powder (about 6 kcal in a 2 g serving) and are estimates — matcha is unsweetened, so it adds no sugar.

Where Japanese Ryori Matcha comes from — and why the land, the altitude, and the craft give it the cup it has.
Japan
Shade-grown and stone-milled Japanese matcha.
Japan has been making matcha for roughly 800 years, since Zen monks first brought the practice from China, and Japanese growers still set the standard for how the leaf is shaded, steamed and milled. Our matcha is Japanese, made the traditional way for its vivid colour and natural sweetness.
For the final 20–30 days before harvest, the tea plants are covered to block most sunlight (a technique called kabuse). Starved of light, the leaf floods with chlorophyll and L-theanine — the source of matcha's electric green color, its umami, and its signature calm-focus. The leaf is then steamed, dried and de-veined into tencha, and the tencha is ground into a fine powder. Earlier, younger leaves make the brighter, sweeter grades; later, sturdier leaves make culinary matcha with a fuller, earthier flavour that holds up in milk and baking.

Green-tea umami with grassy, vegetal notes: bright and smooth in the café grade, fuller and earthier in the culinary grade. Because you drink the whole leaf, you get its caffeine together with L-theanine, the amino acid shading builds up in the leaf.

Yes. Matcha naturally contains caffeine, because you drink the whole ground tea leaf rather than an infusion of it.
Keep the bag tightly sealed, away from heat, light and moisture, which dull matcha's colour and flavour. Use a dry spoon every time.
